A project to drain the largest reservoir in Santa Clara County to repair its aging dam is bringing with it unwelcome guests, say neighbors who live nearby: wild pigs.
“We’ve had problems with racoons and gophers. But I’ve never seen anything like this,” said Roga “Tony” Gabucan, 42. Wild pigs rooted through Alie Saad’s back yard near Anderson Reservoir last July, ruining $5,500 in landscaping. And they eat everything from reptiles to small mammals. They cause erosion and rip up streams and wetlands by rooting for roots, bulbs and grubs. They can kill ground-nesting birds, and endangered species like the Alameda whipsnake and California Red-legged frog.
