Water has arguably become the most precious commodity on the West Coast.

, is crucial to providing water to the more than 40 million residents in the Golden State but is also in danger of drying up.

"Climate change impacts have become a matter of protecting communities in California -- worsening wildfire risk, worsening drought, extreme heat," he continued."We used to think about preparing for climate change impacts as sort of a future planning exercise for coming decades. Now, we're actually responding to it as the public safety imperative.

In May, water levels in Lake Tahoe were so low that some boats could not be launched from ramps and docks. The City of South Lake Tahoe even closed a boat ramp to motorized boaters for the 2021 due to the low levels, ABC Sacramento affiliateDespite the drop, the communities surrounding Tahoe likely won't suffer as much as those who depend on reservoirs elsewhere in the West that supply water to millions of people, Schladow said.

The drops are even more significant considering the size of the lake. At 1,700 square miles,"it takes a lot of water to make a change," Vernon said, adding that it was likely"something continuous over time" to make a difference in the water levels. The biodiversity the lake promotes would dwindle as well. About 10 million birds stop over at the lake every year to rest and feed during their migration routes -- such as the Pacific Flyway route before they head to South America, Vernon said.

Duh. Native America and farmers are the only ones saving the ecosystem. Tax the tax free. Quit subsidizing oil.

If 80% of the water usage in CA is for farms, they need to get smarter with how they irrigate. There simply isn’t enough water to go around.

You have an ocean full of the stuff, sunshine to make power, and the technology to desalinated. It's not happening because it isn't worth the cost. If it was oil it would be

Hire water planes.

Why don’t they have salination plantsor people with water trucks? How do people in the desert get their water? Why hasn’t this situation been solved or thought about till now? What are they waiting for? The ocean hasn’t dried up.

Desalinization plants will also have to be constructed up and down the entire west coast to offset climate change.

Its quite obvious that a water pipeline system throughout the country will have to be developed. Just as crude oil is transferred from Alaska and Canada, water will have to be distributed via pipeline. California's entire central valley supplies farm products nation wide.

If the water is getting so scarce then stop boats from potentially contaminating the current water. Get the boats off the water. I have seen so many boats leaking oil and gas that could contaminate water.

🆘🆘🆘Miles Guo issued a grave warning on 6/20/2021 The imminent threat is based on reliable intelligence——the CCP is going to carry out a 2nd round of attacks on the 🇺🇸United States and 🇬🇧🇪🇺Western countries, and plan to distract the world from the virus by invading 🇹🇼Taiwan

California is literally on the Pacific Ocean. Why our government hasn't built more green desalination plants is beyond ridiculous. We have 11. For the whole entire state which is bigger and has a larger population than many countries in the world.

this is terrible news

Turn off the damn water when you wash your hands

No shit

Stop wasting it on almonds.
