'We expressed concerns about ventilation and the district just kept saying that they’d provided box fans and to keep the windows open,' one teacher said of her school's attempts to safeguard against the coronavirus, which many feel don't go far enough.

found that about half of public schools in the United States need to update or replace building systems, including about 36,000 school buildings that need updated heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.for safely reopening schools advises ensuring that ventilation works properly, in addition to increasing outdoor air circulation when possible, by doing things like opening windows and doors.

"BPS is following all guidelines from the CDC, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education , the Boston Public Health Commission , and the American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers . BPS continues to prioritize facility improvements to ensure our buildings continue to meet public health guidelines," the statement read.

Caine and other teachers say the lack of proper ventilation they see in their classrooms is just a part of a bigger problem of continually underfunded and underappreciated schools.

Mike Pence’s Indiana, any type of face covering “mask” and good to go. Over 5,000 confirmed COV-19 + cases in IN Public Schools and not all schools have reported their data. Trump/Pence pushed to open, IN delivered. Yet Trump/Pence did nothing to assure “safe“ openings.

What the frick are they supposed to do? Hermetically seal the school off, and make it a sterile environment? Get real. Stop being scared, live your life, and get out from under the damn covers.

Living in fear what a life

Ridiculous

I just shared this article with a teacher group - we have the same issues, only a few states away. Old buildings, 1950’s hvac systems, and they want teachers to be nurses, teachers, & disciplinarians all while teaching to half an in-person class & half on-line. Crazy.

In order to learn, children need a safe, healthy, comfortable environment. Do you think children will be thinking about books, or computers, or any lesson, while trying to stay warm? Insane.
