Southwest Airlines travelers faced a brutal capstone to the Christmas weekend, as the company canceled 70% of its flights Monday. Another 63% had been canceled by Tuesday. In a statement on its website, Southwest called its own performance 'unacceptable.'

While most other U.S. airlines also canceled some flights as a result of the unprecedented winter storm that swept across the U.S., none were as hard-hit as Southwest. On Tuesday, it confirmed it would be operating at just one-third capacity"for the next several days.", Southwest called its own performance"unacceptable."

Passengers wait in line to check in for their flights at Southwest Airlines service desks at LaGuardia Airport in New York on Tuesday. At a news conference in Houston, Southwest spokesman Jay McVay said cancellations snowballed as storm systems moved across the country, leaving flight crews and planes out of place.

Unlike many other U.S. air carriers, Southwest operates on what is known as a point-to-point flight route system, meaning a plane will fly consecutive routes, picking up different crews along the way. But if an airport goes offline because of weather, and a flight cannot reach its destination, the point-to-point system has a cascading cancellation effect, he said.

To Southwest Airlines: get ready to open your checkbook

Not flying in dangerous weather is the necessary and correct decision. We need better ground public transportation systems that connect more rural communities as well as population centers.

More so is the insane price gouging that the airline companies are doing. But you know capitalism, it’s just the best ever.

If we had more high speed mass public transit then we could alleviate some of the congestion for travel and use less fossil fuel. I discuss this on my show.

SouthwestAir Companies used to get by with “mistakes” and owning their failures. The public is quite over it. Just a note- I’m not even impacted, but this crosses you off my trips when I’m out West.

Don't fill it scrap it.

Who cares. Its a flippin industry controlled by the government. And the TSA are the brown shirts wnd Gestapo. Remove government from it and it fails. Let it fail

Mohammad_Moradi 38, was found in the Rhone river that flows through the centre of Lyon late on Monday. Moradi had posted a video on Instagram saying he was about to drown himself to highlight the crackdown on protesters in Iran. “When you see this video, I will be dead🕊️🕊️

It’s called winter

Have they tried putting the airline in rice? Maybe it will restart again..

More than ever we need Hispeed railway replacement for shorter distances 1500 miles & less

Goverment Sponsored?

In Sam Kinisens voice.. .because the F ING blizzards........

Southwest performance was unacceptable, because much of it was preventable. Obviously, not the weather, but their IT capabilities. Ever airline experienced severe weather conditions, the only one to melt down was Southwest.

Repeal the 1500 hour rule. That will go a long way to helping.

united is as worst like SouthwestAir
