Why Sam Wilson Really Has A New Captain America Costume In MCU Phase 5 - New World Order Theory

Set photos from the production of Captain America: New World Order have revealed a new suit for Sam Wilson which could be explained by a theory for Phase 5's overarching story. Filming for Captain America 4 began in March 2023, with plenty of news about the film being revealed as a result. The first pictures of Harrison Ford as the recast Thunderbolt Ross were revealed, as was the confirmation of Liv Tyler's return to the MCU as Betty Ross.

On the other hand, Sam Wilson's suit change needs to be explained for one major reason, stemming from the story of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The show told an incredibly compelling story - at least in regard to Sam's journey - about the character coming to terms with taking on the Captain America mantle. In the fifth episode, Sam finally accepted his role as Captain America, with the cliffhanger ending setting up his first Cap appearance in a brand-new suit.

Given that it has been established that the U.S. covets Vibranium, Sam could come into the firing line. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier made it clear that Sam's suit was made in Wakanda, likely implementing various Vibranium elements from the wings and shield to the fibers in the suit. With Thunderbolt Ross also being confirmed as the President of the U.S. for the film who is at odds with Sam, the latter could have his suit confiscated by the former.
