a Niantic-made game licensed from Capcom. It’s a project that has been in the works since Kei Kawai, the chief product officer in the Japan studio, made a pitch to “Monster Hunter” producer Ryozo Tsujimoto in 2019.
And somehow Niantic manages to do that. Players shouldn’t expect long 45-minute hunts where they chase a monster around the neighborhood. The encounters are thankfully short and bite-sized not lasting longer than 75 seconds. The action feels visceral despite being just swipes and taps.Players tap on a monster on a map, and they battle with the beast on the screen by tapping on it. That lets player perform combos.
Despite the option to party up, players don’t need a cadre of hunters to slay a monster. Kawai said his team crafted the game to be soloable. “We designed the game to be more fun to play together,” he said. “We don’t require any player to multiplay to get through certain hurdles.”
