Here's why NASA’s Pluto flyby 5 years ago today continues to change the search for life beyond Earth:

, prior to the 2015 flyby scientists had expected a very cold and geologically dead world. What they got was an incredibly complex and geologically active world that might contain a liquid water ocean.

It has nitrogen frost and methane snow, it has snow-capped mountains forged from ice. It also has steep ridges—blades—that are not seen anywhere else in the Solar System. All of this was immediately obvious to the New Horizons team—and profoundly shocking.New Horizons found an enormous heart-shaped impact crater, a reservoir of solid, but soft nitrogen ice—a glacier that has polygon shapes and troughs carved into it.

New Horizons found ammonia on Pluto, which is important because it lower the temperature that ice water melts. It creates a sludge—a kind of lava.... [+] One of the most spectacular images from the 2015 flyby was this photo of the layers of blue haze in the dwarf planet’s atmosphere. Revealed as New Horizons left the Pluto system and peered back to see the world backlit by the Sun, this shot shows even more detailed layers of a photochemical smog of methane and other molecules in Pluto’s atmosphere.by NASA's “flying telescope” SOFIA during a rare eclipse-like occultation of a star by Pluto.

Why Latino voters are giving 'serious consideration' to Biden“So far the messaging we have seen has really been characterized as anti-immigrant, anti-Latino,” Matt Barreto, co-founder of Latino Decisions, says of President Trump’s re-election campaign. “Any promises he makes are not being taken very seriously.” What Trump thinks of Mexicans? - 'Drug dealers, criminals, rapists'. I am at a loss as to why any latinos would EVER consider voting for Trump or any GOP politician for that matter? After all the calumny, are Latinos still undecided who to vote for? What do they want, a memo from Trump that he and his base really hate them? Get behind the BLM Nazis

Poetic Justice Is a Movie-Long Exploration of Why Janet Jackson Isn't SmilingThere are imperial phases—the period in a pop star’s career when virtually everything they touch is gold and received by the public as such—and then there is Janet Jackson’s imperial phase. It spanned her breakout third album, 1986’s Control, through 1993’s janet. In the U.S., both of those albums spawned a massive six hit singles (seven for Control if you count the quiet-storm radio staple “Funny How Time Flies (When You’re Having Fun”), and the album that came between them, 1989’s Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814, has the distinction of being the only album to turn out seven singles to peak in the top five of the Billboard Hot 100 chart (not counting reissued “deluxe” versions of preexisting albums like Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream). And all before Jackson turned 30. Please stop perpetuating the 'AIDS test' story. Singleton confessed that it never happened and was a publicity stunt. It was a really sexist and crappy way to treat Janet, who is still getting the crap end of that story all these years later.
