Ever drive 34 Bil miles? Quite a trip. When you get there there's no Air, Water, the soil is poison, Temperatures are hostile, Solar Radiation can kill you, no fuel to come back home, can't have any device fail, just little things like that.

The Earth-Mars distance is between 55 and 400 Million km.
