Rising prices for the breakfast mainstays is a national trend, as no food item increased as much as eggs in the past year.

Consumers are paying a lot more for many items these days, especially in Phoenix, but no food product is raising feathers quite like eggs.

To meet changing market conditions and growing demand, producers altered their methods to emphasize larger scale and enclosed cages, with a focus on mass production, protecting the birds from predators and inclement weather.
