Global law firms are moving into Salt Lake City, changing Utah's legal market and affecting firms that already exist in the Beehive State.

“You see a lot of these firms coming in to try and capitalize on the great things about our state and ... our economy, and I’m not going to fault them for that,” said Nathan Thomas, president of Jones Waldo. “But what’s also interesting ... is that for the most part, we’re not seeing a lot of additions of lawyers from elsewhere.”

The Jones Waldo law firm located at 170 S. Main is joining Parsons Behle & Latimer, located across the street at One Utah Center, 201 S. Main, March 31, 2022.“One is the Utah economy is incredibly strong,” he said. Plus, “there’s a real talent pool here.” Kimberly Neville, a partner at Dorsey & Whitney, said she thinks the move to remote work during the coronavirus pandemic also helped “opportunities to expand elsewhere,” including to Utah.
