Why are some people with coronavirus asymptomatic — and why are they so contagious? New research sheds light on asymptomatic transmission is 'the Achilles’ heel of COVID-19.'

Just how contagious is someone who has contracted COVID-19 — yet displays no symptoms — and what makes them asymptomatic while other people suffer so terribly with the disease?

The study was led by Seungjae Lee, an associate professor at Soonchunhyang University College of Medicine in South Korea, was peer reviewed, and carried out earlier in the pandemic; the researchers analyzed swabs taken from the group between March 6 and March 26. The World Health Organization currently estimates that 16% of people with COVID-19 are asymptomatic and can transmit the coronavirus, while other data show that 40% of coronavirus transmission is due to carriers not displaying symptoms of the illness.

Those ACE2 receptors or “doorways” appear to be more prevalent in older people and those who are obese than younger people. That may go some way in explaining why so many young people have not been as badly affected by the virus as those older than 60, for instance. But a strong immune response to an infection from a virus such as COVID-19 can sometimes cut both ways. Case in point: Doctors and members of the public were spooked by how otherwise strong, healthy people fell victim to the 1918 influenza.

“In fact, the death rate from pneumonia and influenza that year among 25-34-year-olds in the United States was more than 50% higher than that for 65-74-year-olds. A remarkable difference to Covid-19,” Deutsche Bank said. — Monica Gandhi, Deborah Yokoe and Diane Havlir, scientists at the University of California, San Francisco Public-health officials have advised people to keep a distance of six feet from one another.

Quantanamo Nice article but unless I’m misreading it I think at one point you refer to the Korean researchers as Chinese.

So how long can an asymptomatic person be contagious, days, weeks, months? What this article is saying to me,is if you find yourself in a social situation, you must isolate yourself immediately after contact for at least 2 weeks and get yourself tested right after,if no symptoms.

Bc the asymptomatic positives are false positives and they never had the virus

If you cite and leave out 'pandemic control' you distort the sense of the citation.

There is no hard evidence asymptomatic is contagious even for flu (aka classic corona)

Absent from all the scaremongering is the fact that this was an engineered bioweapon. I can only imagine the desired outcome.

Even if 95% of the population is asymptomatic or show mild symptoms, 5% represents 16.5 million with severe symptoms and if 5% of those die, it represents 825,000 Americans. Physical separation and masks are the only game in town till we get a vaccine with high efficacy.
