The hospital resumed taking patients transported by EMS effective 7 a.m. Tuesday after a pause of about a week amid staffing issues.resumed accepting patients by ambulance on Tuesday. The announcement came about a week after it stopped accepting EMS-transported patients after laying off about 34% of its staff.
Terry Fokas, chief restructuring officer and general counsel at White Rock Medical Center, said the hospital “employed 460 staff in various capacities. The recent reduction in force affected 158 full-time employees.” The layoffs came amid ongoing litigation with the hospital’s former owner.Originally opened as Doctors Hospital, the facility has changed hands and names multiple times over the years.
Heights Healthcare of Texas most recently bought the medical center from California-based Pipeline Health last fall. Pipeline bought the medical center from Texas healthcare giants Baylor Scott and White and Tenet Healthcare, which jointly owned the hospital for about two years, during which time it was called Baylor Scott and White Medical Center – White Rock. Pipeline filed for bankruptcy in 2022 and sold two Chicago hospitals in 2023, according to court records.
Heights Healthcare, which operates five healthcare facilities and hospitals in Houston, are in litigation proceedings in Dallas County over the sale of the 250-bed hospital. Walmart decided to close all its health centers, including those in North Texas scheduled to open this month
