Whirly-swirly winds will keep coast cool but won't help inland San Diego County [Breaking]

Coastal eddies spinning like pinwheels will keep San Diego County beaches cool this week. They’ll also produce more ‘June gloom’. But inland areas will be four to 10 degrees above average, further drying wildlands that are already brown and blond from drought.

The National Weather Service says the high pressure system the sent the temperature soaring to 118 degrees in Ocotillo Wells is largely gone. But a new one will develop over Southern California by Tuesday. El Cajon, which has an average high of 80 this time of year, will be 83 on Tuesday, 85 on Wednesday, and 87 on Thursday. The heat will ratchet up in a similar way from Fallbrook down to Campo.The eddies “could produce moderate rip currents at the coast,” said Liz Schenk, a weather service forecaster. “People heading to the beach from inland areas should be aware of that.”The message is different for inland dwellers, especially those who plan to go hiking in the backcountry, whereare common.
