'Even if it was unintentional, the attorney general’s unprecedented decision to raid Mar-a-Lago will have an immense impact on how both parties approach the next presidential campaign.' More from danschnur in our Perspectives section:

Trump has not only updated his angry message -- he has refined it. While his supporters were deeply unhappy about the outcome of the 2020 election, they were infuriated on their hero’s behalf. They strongly identified with Trump and felt wronged for him, but ultimately this was a political affront rather than a personal one for them.

However, Trump might not be the only president who benefits politically from this controversy. Biden has been on the receiving end of no shortage of criticism and second-guessing from a growing number of Democrats, including some who have openly called for the party to.

Dan Schnur is a Professor at the University of California – Berkeley, Pepperdine University, and the University of Southern California, where he teaches courses in politics, communications and leadership. Dan is a No Party Preference voter, but previously worked on four presidential and three gubernatorial campaigns, serving as the national Director of Communications for the 2000 presidential campaign of U.S. Senator John McCain and the chief media spokesman for California Governor Pete Wilson.
