Heliot Ramos and Sean Hjelle, two top prospects on the cusp of the majors, were among four cuts from big league camp Monday.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The list of Giants roster cuts Monday morning consisted of four intriguing prospects: imposing outfielder Heliot Ramos, 6-11 right-hander Sean Hjelle and two rising catchers, Ricardo Geneves and Patrick Bailey.

“He’s the type of talent where if he’s performing over a sustained period of time in the minor leagues, it’s going to be hard to keep him away from the big leagues,” Kapler said. “It’s really experience more than anything else.” Asked recently about the imposing physique of Ramos, who is listed at 6-1, 188 pounds but is built like a linebacker, Kapler also turned to the football field for a comparison: He told a story about standing on the sidelines at Lambeau Field for a Packers-Cowboys game and feeling a running back blow by him at full speed.

For Hjelle, the message is similar to the one provided to Logan Webb for much of last season. That is: trust the movement of your pitches and don’t worry about being too perfect. Webb took that advice to heart, started throwing his pitches to the middle of the plate and letting their movement do the work, and turned into one of the best starters in the National League for the last half of last season.
