The anticipation: Dallas should expect more movement than usual, placing a premium on the club’s ability to respond. Depending on how that scramble shakes out, the Cowboys are prepared — and may actually prefer —
The club has made no secret of its desire to upgrade the offensive line after allowing two starters — left tackle Tyron Smith and center Tyler Biadasz — walk in free agency. The strength and depth of the offensive line class at the top of this draft dovetails nicely with one of Dallas’ greatest needs. But where does the break come? There could be a run at the position just before the Cowboys are on the clock. But Dallas won’t reach.
“I have great confidence in our process that if we do select one high, that we’ll make the offensive line room better and we’ll figure it out.’’ Three candidates loom large in the Cowboys’ range. Washington’s Troy Fautanu, Duke’s Graham Barton and Oklahoma’s Tyler Guyton. Of those three, Guyton appears to have the best chance to be there at No. 24, and there’s no assurance that will happen. If the Cowboys do move back, it shifts the conversation to a different set of offensive lineman. A new name enters the debate if the offensive line board is depleted at No. 24 or the team moves back a few spots: Missouri’s Darius Robinson.
