For Trump, the selection of a third Supreme Court justice will be a reward for the party that has enabled him—and a craven justification for them to keep doing so

on Sunday. “She has made clear she would invalidate the A.C.A. and take health care away from millions of people and undermine a woman’s reproductive freedom.”

One of the striking things about Barrett is how deliberate her potential path to the Supreme Court has been. Of course, no one accidentally finds themselves on the bench. But her career trajectory stands out. Soon after her arrival at Notre Dame Law School in the mid-1990s, religious conservatives—seeking smart, young people to help them undo progressive legal victories of the ’60s and ’70s—took notice of Barrett and championed her career.

That a decision impacting the lives of millions of Americans will almost certainly come down to such crude political calculations is dispiriting. So, too, is the fact that a pick will be made before the election at all, given the position McConnell and the Republicans staked out in 2016. No doubt you recall them refusing to hold hearings for’s choice to replace Scalia, on the grounds that it was an election year.

Such a naked power grab could appeal to conservatives. But the prospect of Justice Barrett—and potentially other future picks, should Trump remain in office past January—could also energize the president’s opponents, incensed that this vacancy could go to someone who poses a threat to the rights her predecessor spent her life championing.

Trump: SCOTUS pick will ‘most likely’ be a woman, will announce ‘next week’While departing the White House en route to a campaign rally in North Carolina, President Trump disagreed with Susan Collins’ statement that the Senate should not vote on a replacement for Justice Ginsburg until the election. The president said his pick would likely be announced next week. Has he been told to stay away from the services? I couldn't hear the reporter's question. Did trump say that the Senate not having acted on President Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland in March 2016 was because President Obama 'lost the election'? 😮 Um... Trying anything to get the women's vote. The women I know are too smart to fall for this BS.

Surprise, Surprise: Trump's Top SCOTUS Pick Promises to Be a Disaster for Abortion RightsAs all but two Republican senators buckle in for a last-minute, whiplash-inducing Supreme Court appointment, Trump and his Heritage Foundation cronies have reportedly coalesced around a frontrunner: Amy Coney Barrett, an appeals court judge with a dubious track record on abortion.\n I often wonder why these people don’t just use their churches to spread their religious beliefs? Yes, that’s a rhetorical question.

President Trump says he will announce SCOTUS pick on Friday or SaturdayPresident Trump says that he expects to name a US Supreme Court nominee to fill the vacancy left by the late Justice Ginsburg on Friday or Saturday. spettypi breaks down the latest. spettypi Given that so many Republicans probably voted for Trump because of possible SCOTUS picks, and given that this one is likely his last, what are the chances that IF he and McConnell force this one through BEFORE the election, fewer Republicans will care about voting for him again? spettypi Presumably it's coming down to whose pussy he thinks is most grabbable spettypi All of those would be great replacement for RBG.
