I get your point and it's a valid point but from what he said that I understand is that *compared to the rest of the world*, the American free press has a huge role to play in shaping democracy for America and the entire globe because compared to the rest of us, YOU CAN SPEAK.
The mainstream press covers lots of things well. But the White House press corps and the political reporters in this country have normalized the slide of Republicans into extremism, crackpot theories, and racism by treating those positions as equivalent to the other party.
