marychaostyle I'm calling BS. It's the same line that's been fed to us throughout high school. Colleges & Universities are big business with large Student Loan Debt attached. Money can be made without the debt in such industries/ trades/professions as Machinists, Real Estate, Nursing, etc.

jobs of the future: robot builder. robot repair could be utopia if we collectively decide that the owner of a robot does not get to own everything a robot produces.

Education is needed but there's big bucks in much physical labor, e.g. oil industry, welding, plumbing, electrical. Don't need a college degree for that but one can make a really good living with the right education.

Should be more worried about quality of work done by people with degrees.

haven’t seen your standard govt shut down post this morning. Democrats were invited again today( been invited many times) and declined. How come NPR ignores that? It’s not news when you only report half the information that supports one agenda.

'Work' as it is defined by DOL. Humans have that insatiable hunger to think creatively and process new ideas, concepts that can be cultured and turned into 'work'. We got skills!!

Whaaaaaat that's total bullshit. Who fixes your plumbing. Who repairs your car. Who installs the new outlet for your fancy new appliances. Not college degreed highly indebted white collar kids. Get a grip NPR. The world needs blue collar hands on workers.

I’m 49 and have a GED. Starting in the 80’s until August of last year I have held numerous positions that had required a college degree based on my experience and work ethic. I have managed multi-million dollar equipment stores. I can’t buy a job in management now.

Well, what about builders, plumbers, electricians, mechanics, to name a few blue-collar and much needed workers , who don’t need a degree. Plus, college is way out of tough, financially, for most

Just watched a Mike Rowe show that demonstrated various construction fields are crying for trained workers.

Fast food will never go away!

Education and healthcare are as vital to national security as ships, planes, and bombs.
