What Rockets players can gain during closing stretch to another rough season

The Rockets are far away from a chase for a playoff spot but furthering the development of Alperen Sengun, Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr. figures to be the top priority the rest of the season.Less than a week after LeBron James declared that the Lakers’ final 23 games would be among the most important of his career, the NBA will resume its season Thursday with a great deal at stake. The addition of play-in games has 25 teams within 2 ½ games of the postseason.

But in the name of development that has driven decision making, including the trade-deadline jettisoning of veterans, there are individual gains to be pursued in the 24 games that remain in the Rockets’ season. The Rockets’ leading scorer, and the top scorer among the NBA’s first- and second-year players, the Rockets would like to see Green become a far more consistent shooter.

Rookie guard TyTy Washington Jr. showed some positives in the Rockets' stretch before the All-Star break.Washington had seemed to be more aggressive defensively and assertive offensively in the games before the break, an important step for him. He needs to build on that to defend more forcefully and look for his shot.
