All that said, Sacramento, Salem , Santa Fe and Springfield are very different places but might at times have very similar legislation on the floors of their state legislatures. And if you live in Iowa, it’s actually fairly useful to see what laws are passing in Alabama and Texas — they are likely to come to your state soon.
If you’re wondering why some issues, and even specific bills, tend to proliferate across states, there are a few reasons. First, there are some policy questions on some issues that don’t really vary that much by state. Secondly, there are national groups who are both aware of how hard it is to pass legislation in Washington and understand the importance of state policy, so

M_Nerdskull Union busting assholes! fking the working man in an age when we're already getting fked. GJ republitards
Have your graphic designer go to graphic design school, learning such concepts as color contrast and color blindness before making another such infographic. I have pretty good color vision and I can’t tell your greens or pinks apart. Imagine someone with color blindness.
Both parties have some good and some bad about them but in reality voting for either is something I hate
popstarmp3 I need to move 🤢
So... both sides are not the same?
Trump 2020 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
FiveThirtyEight If you look closely at both maps here it becomes clear that all the things on the right are stupid and all the things on the left were drawn up by people with functioning brains and a sense of compassion
As bad as each other. (Does not even include recent abortion laws.)
Federalism!
I hate Republicans. I genuinely hate them.
NV passed a ban on BDS protests in violation of the US Constitution.
I view the wings of Democratic party now the way I viewed the two parties decades ago: progressives and business-friendly financial conservatives. Then there's that right-wing, theocratic, authoritarian Nazi party that would have been unthinkable back then.
ChrisWarcraft Alabama, Georgia, Indiana & Missouri on that map and you don't mention reproductive rights? WTF?!
Am I missing something? Where is restricting/outlawing abortion in those red states?
FiveThirtyEight Is abortion really that big of a deal? Still? Will the second civil war be over abortion?
FiveThirtyEight Fricking Ohio. I'm sad and glad that I moved away from there. Maybe I should go back and start knocking on doors.
Even with your obvious bias I stilI say f___ the demo/n/crats . Cities covered in feces and dark age diseases. Yea leave that part out.
Vote Democrat, y'all!
Amazing
Drums keep pounding a rhythm to the brain. And the beat goes on. And the beat goes on, and on, and on...
burritojustice And this is why I live in CA. 🐻
ne0liberal Oh man, there are so few states without 'trifectas'.
BCAppelbaum Great post. Thanks
See, North Carolina IS purple 💜
nadabakos You missed Vermont there on the blue graph!
nadabakos Wtf
nadabakos Right to work states should not receive any benefits the union worked for too.
I haven't visited many of the 'blue trifecta' states, but the one I live in has exponentially increased homelessness and human feces on the streets.
Look at how polarized our country is. The east coast and the west coast pretty much wants to tell the rest of the country how to believe and how to live and want to force the middle of the country to accept their policies and laws.
Glad I live in a red state
For the people. Against the people. It's a simple choice.
Less hate. More love. We need to listen not scream. It's better to understand than to be understood.
mattdpearce This isn't hard -- Blue State: repairing infrastructure, free community college, lower auto insurance rates. Red state: finding new ways they can use intravaginal wands on your mothers, wives, sisters and daughters.
You’re cherry picking. Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arizona and Florida all have legal marijuana. You’re implying otherwise with this graphic.
That's actually a pretty cool couple of charts!
Funny all the states no one wants to live are red Russian controlled states.
mattdpearce Republicans disgust me.
Less hate. More love. We need to listen not scream. It's better to understand than to be understood.
You forgot the Republican attacks on reproductive health and women's rights.
HillaryWarnedUs This!
BCAppelbaum NB: While the red states shown there are working on anti-BDS laws, a number of those blue states already have them.
Trump2020
Missouri raised minimum wage above federal.
Who ever imagined, the party that preached small govt & freedom of choice, is the one, in red, taking over the minds, rights & bodies of its own voters. Meanwhile, the blue advocates choice, freedom & equality The GOP really blew its chance to lead forever HypocriticalRedStates
So Democrats get all this power and expand freedoms and services, Republicans do the opposite
👏now👏do👏state👏taxes👏
This says it all. The GOP needs to be burned and the earth salted.
Oh yeah that’s not biased at all lmao fakenews
Well democrats have been steadily growing the homeless population, taxes and gas prices...
