Western Washington is facing its second round of widespread lowland snow while problems from the first round – canceled flights, no garbage service, the closure of COVID testing sites, and snow and ice on roads – persist.

SEATTLE — Western Washington is waking up to more snow after a weather system moved in overnight. We could see a reasonable amount of snow, from 1 to 4 inches, for most of the lowlands, which is why a winter weather advisory is in effect until 2 p.m. However, if you go north of Everett and toward the Cascades, there will be higher amounts of snow. In Whatcom County, 6 inches or more could fall, with a winter storm warning already issued for western Whatcom County until noon.

The snow is expected to taper off from north to south this afternoon. We could even get some freezing or cold rain south of Olympia for a brief time Thursday morning. The coast will mainly see rain.

Gusty winds this morning. Winds are southerly as our system moves onshore, but they will switch to a cold northerly flow this afternoon.
