WASHINGTON — Wes Unseld, the workmanlike Hall of Fame center who led Washington to its only NBA championship and was chosen one of the 50 greatest players in league history, died Tuesday after a series of health issues, most recently pneumonia. He was 74. A five-time All-Star and, along with Wilt Chamberlain, one of only two players to win NBA Rookie of the Year and MVP honors in the same season, Unseld instantly made the team then known as the Baltimore Bullets into a winning franchise after it selected him No. 2 overall in the 1968 draft.
Wesley Sissel Unseld was born March 14, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky, where he won two state championship at Seneca High School and then stayed home for college, attending the University of Louisville.

bbishop23 RIP
Thanks for the article that rightly honors Wes Unseld. Small point: Are you sure those colleges averages are for his four-year career or only the three years on varsity back when freshman did not play on the varsity? He had great numbers on Louisville's freshman team in '64-'65.
Yes, I remember him well in those days I was a young lad! Rest in peace , sir!
STATter911 I met him and Phil Chenier over the years. Both classy gentlemen. Always made time to talk to a fan. My sister-in-law used to work at the bank where he cashed his Bullets paycheck.
RIP Wes. He is one of my all-time favorite players at Louisville. A man of character and grace from a great family. A fierce competitor. He was the best at rebounding and rifling a pass downcourt for a fast break, and he had an immediate impact in the NBA.
Rest in heavenly peace
Wes was one of my first sports heroes. Loved watching him play
His throwback jersey started something epic
Who?

Rest In Power, WesUnseld. 🙏🏽💙
R.I.P big Wes
