Disparities among racial and ethnic groups persist in breastfeeding despite consistent improvements in rates. The prevalence of breastfeeding initiation in 2019 was 84.1% overall and varied by maternal race/ethnicity, ranging from 90.3% among infants of Asian mothers to 73.
6% among infants of Black mothers, a difference of 16.7 percentage points. Using the social ecological model as a jumping off point, this five-part series will address breastfeeding normalization, support, and interventions at all levels of the model to address persistent disparities. This is the second webinar of the series which will focus on the “interpersonal” level.
