After heavy rain and thunderstorms caused delays and ultimately an abrupt end to the 75th running of the tournament, planners are set to meet to discuss this.DOTHAN, Ala. - The 75th Press Thornton Future Masters wrapped up this weekend, but the way it ended could change the event as we know it., resulting in Round 3 play being negated and Ben Shedd of Cullman, Alabama being awarded the victory as the leader at the end of Round 2.
Planners will meet next week to wrap things up and discuss the tournament, including how to prepare for weather like they saw over the weekend. “Having a five-hour rain delay at the beginning of your tournament is just very hard to overcome. One of the considerations is to have a smaller field. Not have quite as many players on the course at one time. So, that is something we talk about every year, about the structure and how many kids we want to take. Taking 468 kids in a week in one tournament on one course is a taxing duty,” Turner said.
Despite this, Turner says the tournament still put on a good showing for its return to the Dothan Country Club.and receive the latest local news and weather straight to your email every morning. Get instant notifications on top stories from News 4 by downloading our
