“We’re triaging.” From Portland to Philadelphia to Los Angeles, police departments are losing officers and can’t find enough recruits to replace them.

“We’re getting more calls for service and there are fewer people to answer them,” said Philadelphia Police spokesperson Eric Gripp, whose department has been rotating employees from specialty units for short assignments to increase patrols. “This isn’t just an issue in Philadelphia. Departments all over are down and recruitment has been difficult.”

Experts say widely cited theories that violent crime is worse in places that changed policing tactics in the wake of protests over Floyd’s murder don’t bear out. Violent crime has increased in red and blue communities alike, regardless of their approach. “He turned around and pulled a pistol out and I didn’t see it. I didn’t feel anything at first but 10 seconds later I could hardly breathe,” King said as he sat on street after three nights in the hospital. “I thought I was going to pass away.”

On a recent night, police Sgt. Travis Garrison spotted a car with no plates driving erratically. The driver appeared high, probably on methamphetamine, and the passenger was almost comatose, with bloody track marks on his arm. And in some departments, police have sworn in new recruits this year, although the numbers aren’t keeping up with attrition, they say.

RepWeinstein care to comment Casey or are you just concerned about the bubble of Hudson where 99.9% of issues are self made. Or better yet, you tweet about gas prices in Ohio dropping which is a good but PA still is paying almost 65 cents more.

Good riddance

'Violent crime,' lmao the 1 killer of cops was COVID.

Good. We don't need them.

ACAB

I hear 40% have concerns about the perception of the job. I'd recommend googling '40% of cops'.

Guess it's getting harder to find terrible humans.

okay, but how do we get rid of the rest of them?

lololololololol

If you wanted to hang your story on the one central anecdote you should've proved any fucking connection to PPD's staffing levels, rather than just mentioning them and hoping no one noticed the rhetorical slight of hand.

guess that's happens when you lose the publics trusts. no one wants to be associated with them

Haha good.

Owned lol

Good. Put that funding to programs that actually help communities.

Fantastic news.

lmao good

Cool and good!

Cool. Maybe the cops will defund themselves

When Democrat politicians empower criminals the results become obvious.

Good

Let them defund themselves, save us the trouble.

This article's headline pretends that police can do/have done/are doing anything to actually stop crime and aren't just scrambling to pick up the pieces afterward. If only there was a wider societal framework that would work more effectively...

Oh darn.

This is fine

They’re defunding themselves

kevskewl

It’s great when unqualified folks remove themselves from situations where they could demonstrably make things worse

Uvalde probably hasn’t helped recruitment. Maybe do your jobs instead of harassing the people you’re supposed to be protecting?

Nice! Let the poor do what they want. My areas policing is A+.

I has sadz.

Unarmed people of color aren’t going to shoot themselves.

Good.

Good

It’s a toxic, racist culture of bullies who are always in the news for murdering people of color. If that’s not you already, you don’t want to work there.

I would suggest not replacing them.

I am not sure why anyone would want to be a cop anymore

Except that police statistically spend very little time addressing violent crime. But plenty of their budget does go to copaganda!

Pay is too low, crime is too high, and demands of the job are too much. When is the last time a cop actually prevented a violent crime? Showing up after the fact and taking notes isn’t what I’d call good police work. Be pro active. Also, lock violent criminals up for longer

oh, no! now who will stand around in the hallway and do nothing while Republicans shoot up our schools

Good.

Awesome. Cop tears are great at reducing diabetes, high blood pressure and reducing inflammation

🥳

I'd say this was good if I didn't think they were lying their asses off so they could get more funding.

Maybe this will make them realize that most calls to police do not require an armed response. Maybe they should hire some folks who will just take reports or mediate conflicts.

Usually the AP sounds more ebullient about gang recruitment falling.

Good

Another puff piece for the cops. It just never gets old huh?

Democrats are responsible with with their defund the police agenda.

Blame your policies

Have they tried having more pizza parties?

Police are the biggest welfare queens out there.

😁 Now they can take that extra money and invest in housing, education, infrastructure etc. What they should have done a long time ago.

Blame it on the media.

Look at the democrats responding to this and happy that violent crime is spiking across the country. They apparently don’t care or bother to learn that the victims are mostly poor POC

Then maybe it’s time we take a sharper look at this whole “policing” business and come up with something better.

Subtext: The proliferation of guns has made police officers reluctant to work in dangerous situations.

Wonder why no one wants to be a cop in those places…. 🤔

Wait until you hear about teachers...

Yea I dont buy it lmao

They voted for it.💁🏼‍♂️

Good

Why a small number of criminals perpetrate the worst crimes in AmericaMost American violent crime is perpetrated by a small number of criminals, and gun violence affects an equally small minority of Americans, mainly in New York, Chicago and other large metro areas. … The dude in the extreme right end looks kinda someone without a crime record But the remaining two look damn like a criminal I'm pretty sure they are all heartless Because the DAs in the Democratic run states have allowed these criminals to be treated as victims
