Olympic athletes are competing under exceedingly unusual circumstances this year. They face more isolation this year with the Games taking place as the world is still in the coronavirus pandemic. And because Tokyo is under a state of emergency, spectators have been barred from most events where the athletes are competing.

Young people's suicide rates are high. Mental health can range from stressed to suicidal. You can give this girl the benefit of the doubt that it must be very serious for this action considering the hard work she put in and wish her the best. or you can be an a-hole.
This young lady doesn’t owe anyone anything including any explanations and I hope people & the press leave her be.

They compete on a level on the world stage that’s scrutinized in front of the entire world about 1 month every 4 years. I’m sure the 4 year mental health break out of the media spotlight would be plenty of time to work out anything you need to work out🤷♂️

Im torn on this one. It’s okay to not be okay. However, all of the athletes are under an enormous amount of stress, but they keep going even if they are underperforming. Sad, that another Olympian couldn’t have that team spot.
I have mixed feelings. This is a team event, she hurt her team and their dreams terribly by pulling out without any warning.
The world wants her to do? She has that twisted.
Retire and enjoy life.

that’s like going to the Super Bowl and having your quarterback quit on you after the first quarter. She ruined three other girls dreams to have a chance at gold. You have to not be selfish and quit on your teammates.
She keeps using the word “we.” This is all about her quitting the team, not “we.” If you can’t handle the pressure and the stress, then don’t compete. But quitting on your team in the middle of the Olympics is selfish.

Gymnastics is a sport that requires 1000% percent confidence and focus. Simone lost both and staying in would risk major, major injury. No one wants to see that.
As always, Simone is an inspiration and champion. The fact that she was strong enough to protect herself from harm, despite criticism, will be one of greatest gifts she has ever shared. I am humbled by her courage and hope people will follow her example.
