sbaroncohen Yes but we also have to get rid of the stigma for autism patients seeking help and a cure for their condition. You cannot say now that we don’t know the cause - it’s clearly in the ECS. I should not be called “self hating” for wanting an end to living hell that has been autism.
sbaroncohen Of course the stigma won't go away until science can identify the physical causes of illnesses like depression in the brain. The term 'mental' implies these conditions are 'in the mind' or imaginary. That's why people are less sympathetic to those who suffer from them.
Mental illnesses are on the rise and it will get worse in the future. And it is not a joke.
How do you help someone who is in dire need of help but won’t accept it and pushes back against the idea of seeing a mental health professional?
Mental illness is a symptom of physical illness. Concussions is one example.
Absolutely brave However, how do people identify they need help? That seems to be very difficult task, as if identifying the own spectacle is coloured, causing wrong colour perception. How do I identify I need mental help ?
I think we miss the fact that people who are facing mental challenges are doing so because something in concern of their social relationships is forcing that concern upon them. People struggle for equality and acceptance, and thereby may neglect theirself at times.
