, pound for pound, I would argue that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is the worse industry failure. And in fact probably one of the worst AAA failures I’ve ever seen. Now, WB is making it well known just how true that is.this morning that contributing to losses in the company’s quarterly financials was the “disappointing release of Suicide Squad,” and actually took an impairment charge for it. Earnings have crashed year over year given that in 2023, the megahit Hogwarts Legacy was out.
The “live service looter shooter” angle was reportedly not forced by management, but it was Rocksteady’s leadership who made the decision to pursue the game instead of alternatives. The most positive press the game got were leaks from the closed alpha that players were restricted from talking about until WB eventually removed that restriction. Many said it was more fun than they thought it would be.
