Proving that in the streaming era, every well-known genre title has reboot potential: A TV series sequel to the 1995 film Waterworld is in the works. The original film’s producers, John Davis…

was the story of a post-apocalyptic world where the polar ice caps had melted and seemingly the entire planet was covered by water.played an underwater-breathing, web-toed trimaran-sailing loner, The Mariner, who comes to aid of a woman and a girl seeking the fabled “dry land.”

The film, directed by Kevin Reynolds, saw its budget swell to a then-record $175 million amid production troubles, including a hurricane off the coast in Hawaii that wiped out its set.‘s reputation as a massive box office bomb has been a bit overstated. The film grossed only $88 million domestically, yet picked up another $172 million overseas — still a disappointment, to be sure, but a failure largely relative to its then-massive budget.

WaterWorld 1995 Extended Cut Widescreen Remastered 2 Hour Version

I’d rather have a Cloverfield TV show.

That movie was knocked in every way back then. Of all the projects, they’ll do this (good for them and all) while too many of us are dismissed before we get a chance to succeed or fail. Beyond upsetting 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️

YESSS!

Yeah, that’s a series that’ll go down the tubes before the first showrunners meeting out of the price tag.

NEW IDEAS PLEASE HOLLYWOOD. Thanks.

WOW

“Dry land is not a myth. I've seen it. Kevin Costner. Waterworld. I don't know what the big fuss is about. I saw that movie nine times. It rules!”

JoshLCain … ALL IN!!

Sweet! That movie was about a 6.5 out of 10. Room for improvement

Sigh

Not one sane person asked for this. let's find out what one of the biggest flops has happening 20 years later. some idiot producers. that's a great idea people will love it, it will be the new lord of the rings how much will it be per episode? 400,000,000$

I will take things I thought I never hear for 500 Lavar

Maybe it’ll be better than the movie.

This is a fun underrated movie which was a victim of wrong kind of hype and media reports . I can see a quality TV series in the same world . Could be good

So, a bad movie spawning a sequel series that nobody asked for? Hollywood hubris is beyond me.

I liked the film. It's a good premise for tv

Water works

Heaven forbid Hollywood green-lights a new IP.

Yeah it’s called Climate change, coming to a theater near you.
