Everyone at NASA knew that eventually there would be an accident in space. On this day in 1986, the Challenger space shuttle exploded, 73 seconds into its flight.

Nearly everyone on earth knew that a spacecraft could blow up during its ascent into space—in part, that may have accounted for the fascination with which many people watched launches. In particular, everyone at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration knew that sometime there would be an accident in space, and that there could be death.

There is nothing new in this; since antiquity, sailors have known that their ships are in the gravest danger when they are entering or leaving harbor in a rough sea. The Challenger exploded at a point just after maximum stress—the point where, after being throttled down, the main engines, each of which could deliver four hundred and seventy thousand pounds of thrust, had been throttled up again.

I had the flu. Awful day.

Why was it inevitable?

It was a very dark day. Horrific.

I was at home, sick as can be, in front of the TV watching. So heart wrenching.

Smutny czas

What Is Windows 11 SE and Why Is It a Chromebook Challenger?Microsoft's big new operating system upgrade has a scaled-down alternative. Here's why. It will be a typical half arsed push from Microsoft like Windows RT was (I've still got an old Surface RT knocking around somewhere) and then Windows Mobile - which in its last version was a fantastic OS let down by the apps because MS didn't give it the support it needed

Utah GOP Rep. Chris Stewart has a challenger in his own party: Erin RiderRepublican Rep. Chris Stewart, currently Utah's longest-serving U.S. House member, will face a challenger within his own party in the state's newly drawn 2nd Congressional District. At least she didn’t vote for Trump. Republicans tend to not be conservative anymore. I welcome more Republicans (as Democrats’ loyal opposition) being more involved in GOP politics. Right now loyal opposition is too sadly and dangerously rare. It’s bad for the country, as we can see. I would walk through a pit of live snakes to get Stewart out of office. He is truly just awful. Very very pleased to have a republican challenger.
