OCEANSIDE, Calif. — San Diego County fire crews are battling a fire that sparked on the Oceanside Pier.
The City of Oceanside said the fire was reported at about 3:00 p.m. on Thursday inside the vacant restaurant formerly known as Ruby's Diner. Fire crews arrived at the pier five minutes after the flames were reported. The U.S. Coast Guard, CalFire, SDG&E and San Diego County firefighters are fighting the fire from the water and air.
According to the City of Oceanside, employees from The Brine Box and Bait Shop were all accounted for.The 1,950-foot-long wooden sea pier is billed as the longest on the West Coast. The original structure, built in the 1880s, fell to a storm in 1890. It was rebuilt and reopened in 1896, then destroyed again 1902.
