Yosemite's ancient sequoias remain in jeopardy as containment of the Washburn Fire fell from 25% to 22%.

"These are natural treasures and it’s a priority to protect them," said Stanley Bercovitz with the U.S. Forest Service.

"We’ve got a sprinkler system set up around it and we are trying to give it preventative first aid, really," said Dickman. Sprinklers keep the area wet, cool flames, and increase humidity. Ground crews have been removing logs, and other pieces of large debris that could act as fuel.

Damn it. Piss poor fire management by YosemiteNPS on this one. They could have hooked it early. But refused to let fixed wing aircraft work the fire for more than three hours. By then, it was too late. Now generational destruction is happening. Great job! 👍🏻 WashburnFire Yosemite Fire 😞🙏

The fire was within striking distance of the park’s Mariposa Grove, home to more than 500 mature sequoias including the Grizzly Giant, estimated to be about 3,000 years old. Gotta give it up for the firefighters with that massive project ahead of them in that brutal heat and horrible conditions. It's so tragic. I hope it's under some sort of control very quickly. They are heroes for sure.
