A projected record turnout from Latino voters in the upcoming presidential election has sparked an effort among voting rights groups to recruit bilingual poll workers. By astridgalvan.

FILE - In this Feb. 26, 2020 file photo, using both the English and Spanish language, a sign points potential voters to an official polling location during early voting in Dallas. Getting enough people to staff polling places amid the coronavirus pandemic is a challenge in many states. The virus’ disproportionate impact on Latinos has made the task of recruiting Spanish-speakers even more difficult.

Eduardo Sainz, Mi Familia Vota’s Arizona state director, said ensuring that poll workers can communicate in Spanish is critical even in a state where most voters cast ballots by mail or by using drop boxes. Newer voters especially seem reluctant to trust their ballot to the Postal Service. That will be especially important in a year that is projected to see a record turnout of eligible Latino voters — some 32 million, according to the Pew Research Center. Census data shows about 12.6 million Latinos cast votes in the 2016 general election— about 47% of those eligible to vote. In Arizona, Latinos account for nearly a quarter of registered voters.

Soto Lamb said the group is actively working with advocacy organizations that reach bilingual and diverse populations.

astridgalvan I served as a poll worker twice. I had the pleasure of instructing Spanish-speakers in how to cast a ballot both times.

astridgalvan Hispanics should remember how Trump disparaged Judge Gonzalo Curiel's 'Mexican Heritage.'

astridgalvan Why do all the polls show low Latino turnout? Even in Texas.

astridgalvan Are they going to tell them if they are not a citizen of the United States they are not to vote in a presidential federal election it could in them up in jail for a very long time, for breaking one more law in the United States

astridgalvan Chinese-speaking ones coming next...

astridgalvan Ok, just as long as they prove they are not spies of the left! Stop the BS! Vote Trump, vote red

astridgalvan ´

astridgalvan if 'record turnout' from latinos occur, Trump will win...
