The company said on Wednesday the reusable bag initiative will start rolling out next month. Customers are increasingly demanding environmentally friendly products and packaging. Placing the bags at checkout will"increase customer convenience," the company said in a press release. The reusable bags are made out of recycled plastic and will be available for purchase for 98 cents.
New York is poised to become the second state after California to ban single-use plastic bags and the European Parliament has approved a law banning a wide-range of plastic items, such as straws, cotton buds and cutlery, by 2021. Walmart in February pledged to drastically reduce its plastic waste and said it would try to offer 100% recyclable, reusable or industrially compostable packaging for its private brand packaging by 2025.
mandytrevinoo !!!! now we don't have to use our HEB bags at walmart!
Just think if they sold them for what they actually paid for them ... I bet you could get them down to two bits..
Turning it into a profit, only way to do it
Say what you will about Walmart, but their reusable bags do hold up really well. They used to sell them for 50 cents, though.
they’ve been doing this forever, they were like a dollar though. thanks for lowering to two cents!!
No thanks...I like the plastic.
Why not just use the Returned Merchandise bags?
Plastic bags have been banned here in Hawaii. We’re doing just fine without them.
How about just eliminating them?🤪🙄
I can't see this doing anything else than wealthy people buying these bags every time they shop and throwing them away. everyone else will just keep on using the free ones. the people actually reusing bags probably already did so before
Gross
Disney stores only sell their reusable bags for $.99 cents. No plastic bags ever
Don't worry. Food stamps will cover these along with cigarettes and greasy snacks.
Where do the 98 cents per bag go to Programs to inform cosumers to bring their own bags? Force producers to use less plastic?
Don’t have plastic bags at all so have to buy them
This is B.S. they are just going to make more money. You're stupid if you think they are doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. They could provide paper bags but it would cost them and they won't do it.
If they were any type of a good corporate citizen, they would give them away rather than make a profit on them.
they could cut down on plastic bags if they would just put more than 1 or 2 things in each one and stop double bagging for no reason
Great idea! When will we ban disposable diapers?
Ok everyone on here who's going to say 'They're so far behind the times, this has been happing all over, blah blah blah...' Please be smart enough to realize this isn't about the BAG, it's about making it ACCESSIBLE/CONVENIENT for shoppers. Try critical thinking.
Walmart is still the greatest place to shop even if you leave with nothing.
Cut down in plastic?! The cashiers at Walmart often put one item per bag!!
Could we please just use/reuse bags that are not made from synthetic materials?
Seriously? Walmart in Canada has been doing this for years! Next thing you know, stores in the U.S. will charge a deposit and then offer a refund when they take back plastic bottles and soda cans.
Plastic is free
If they are free, I will take some. If they cost Walmart should bear the cost not consumers. Walmart would be first to give bags out bc they are eventually going to do away with plastic bags. LETS GO WITH PAPER BAGS PPL!
They did that 10 years ago
Yeah! Go from free to pay. Aren’t they smart.
This is newsworthy?... it’s been happening all over the USA, many towns and cities have banned single use bags.....Walmart and thousands of other stores have been selling reusable bags for years.
And how many times do those bags have to be used before they have less eco-impact than plastic single-use bags? Oh, that.
How did this take until the year 2019? This started happening like 20 years ago most places here in Canada.
Good for them. But I’m still not gonna shop there.
Give them away you greedy devils.
So hip of them.
Nobody buys that garbage. How about paper bags?
What are the bags made of?
