Walmart Inc. today announced that it will pay 100% of tuition and books for its 1.5 million part-time and full-time Walmart and Sam’s Club associates in the U.S. through its Live Better U program, which previously charged employees $1 a day to participate (previously associates paid $1 a day to p...

The Live Better U program was initially designed after consulting with experts, reviewing other employer provided education programs, and studying the research around what helps drive completion rates among adult working learners. That helped guide the initial $1 a day approach, but the economy and job market have changed, and Walmart is always looking for new ways to encourage more associates to pursue further education, the retailer said.

Since launching LBU in 2018, more than 52,000 associates have participated in the program and 8,000 have graduated. Nearly 28,000 associates have been active in an LBU program this summer. Employees are now eligible on their first day of work rather than after 90 days. The program added skilled trade offerings. In June 2020, the program had more than 25,000 students and 3,500 graduates. LBU in 2021 introduced English language learning and more technology programs to keep up with business demand.

Carlson said that Guild looks at all 7,500 institutions of higher education and focuses on the ones with the highest completion rates for adult learning. “It starts with the business needs and understanding of in-demand jobs that align within the labor markets and opportunities within Walmart,” she said.

Trump inaugural chair: I'm '100% innocent' in lobbying caseThe chair of former President Donald Trump’s 2017 inaugural committee pleaded not guilty Monday and said he was “100% innocent” of charges that he secretly lobbied the U.S. on behalf of the United Arab Emirates. Tom Barrack, 74, appeared in Brooklyn federal court for the first time, days after he was freed on $250 million bail following his arrest in California. Prosecutors say Barrack used his multi-decade friendship with Trump to influence the Republican's policy, starting when Trump was a candidate in 2016 and continuing after he was sworn in as president.
