Camilo Sesto was born Camilo Blanes in Alicante, Spain in 1946. At the age of 18, he moved to Madrid to pursue his career; his first album , was released in 1971. His popularity grew in 1973, when he represented Spain in the OTI televised song competition, garnering fans in Latin America. In 1975, Sesto played the title role in in Madrid. The now classic soundtrack album was a hit throughout the Spanish-speaking world.
