The view from inside Wabtec Corp.'s Fort Worth plant, where hundreds of Norfolk Southern's locomotives will be upgraded over the coming years.Pittsburgh-based Wabtec Corp. is hiring 100 workers to modernize 330 Norfolk Southern train engines at a massive facility in Fort Worth.
Wabtec plans to upgrade the locomotives’ engines and insert a variety of digital tools into the 430,000-pound machines, increasing fuel efficiency and reliability and enhancing the amount of freight they can haul. The company has modernized more than 1,100 locomotives in the Western Hemisphere and estimates that its work has reduced the emissions of those freight trains equivalent to removing 340,000 cars from roads.
