Virginia law now requires property owner approval before a car is towed away

Earlier this year, the 7News I-Team witnessed 11 cars in 10 days towed from Giant Food on Washington Boulevard in Arlington , Virginia .Advanced Towing grabbed the vehicles and did it legally as soon as a driver stepped off the property --- many parking at Giant Food and walking down to the DMV just a block away.

House Bill 959 just signed into law by Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin will now allow localities to pass ordinances that would require a second signature by a property owner or it's agent before a towing company can tow a vehicle. Virginia House Delegate Alfonso Lopez sponsored the bill and posted on X: "It ensures that every part of Virginia uses the SAME rules when allowing localities to address predatory towing.""The says the new law is a tool that serves no purpose but to place an onerous burden on the property owner and it places them in harm's way. Delegate Lopez put it in as retribution, he got his vehicle towed by us. He parked illegally to go down the street for some pie.
