A white man was captured on a viral video calling San Francisco police to report an African American man who had been waiting for a friend.
“Daddy, go. It’s the better, I agree with him, daddy. It’s the better. I don’t like this. Let’s go,” the son can be heard before he began to cry. "Upon arrival, officers met with both parties. The reporting party stated an unknown male followed closely behind someone entering the building to gain access," according to the police statement.
"I noticed Wesly Michel caught the door and entered the building without using the callbox," Cukor wrote."I did what came naturally and asked where he was going. I want to be clear on this point, this is something I do regularly, regardless of who the other person is."
I lived in Oakland in one of those apt. Bldgs. across from Lake Merritt, where you regularly see people let themselves in or get buzzed in. Many times I saw people (of all descriptions) 'hitchhike' on a buzz. It is tough to bust on them, but you do think about it. Design flaw.

In 1976 my mom was attacked by a man waiting in the lobby of our building. She was a waitress coming home late and a man tried to rape her. He was waiting in the lobby.
Why didnt the guy say the names of the people or person he was waiting for? Why didn't he simply go to the apt? What if he didnt call and a women was attacked? He did the right thing. Better safe than sorry.
I understand Cukors reasoning for challenging Michel yet its the little boy who saw the possible tragic outcome here. Kids today live in a world where the most innocuous of happenings between white and black people can end in seconds with devastating life changing consequences.

It depends on his tenant rights of the property. If he’s paying for that security feature, he’s justified in seeing that it’s enforced.

Why tailgate inside a secured building then get your feelings hurt when someone calls you out on it? White guy should've handled it differently tho. Since he wasn't in a rush to go anywhere, he could've waited for the guy's friend instead of calling the cops w/ his kid there.

Tailgating is an issue in most major cities but this guy Condo Chris handled it all wrong. He could have just said, “sorry I can’t let you, you have to wait for your friend to let you in” and left. No altercation or police involvement was necessary.
Here’s what you do. Because it looks like it happens to often. Have a big ass sign on the door “NO Trespassing. Resident has every right to ask for ID to non-resident. No if’s or but’s. No tailgating allowed.” HAVE A SIGN or the resident pay for a doorman.

Our building has a policy that we don’t allow people into the building that we don’t know. If I don’t recognize them, I ask them if they are a tenant & if they say yes, I ask to see their keys. Otherwise, I let them know of the policy. He could have handle this better.
