Vinyl records accounted for $232.1 million of music sales in the first half of the year, compared to CDs, which brought in only $129.9 million, according to a report from the Recording Industry Association of America.Vinyl records, also known as"records pressed on wax," were commonplace before other formats, such as cassette tapes and CDs, become the preferred mode of listening to music. But that hasn't stopped vinyl records from making a resurgence.

i've still got all of mine going back to the 60s....and, i bought a vinyl copy of Joanne Shaw Taylor's 'The Dirty Truth' a couple of years ago......my system has a turntable, tuner, cassette deck and an 8 track....i LOVE my vinyl!
One reason is new cars don’t have CD players anymore. I miss that!! Can’t play my favorites in the car only at home on the computer.

Born 68..I started on vinyl in the very late 70s(mainly singles) moving to Tapes for walkmans about 82 and CDs by late 80s for better quality and ease of use then of course downloads/Ipod last 20years.. hope to god it don't change again..

It's all pretty much standardized now. Speed, Weight, Deeper grooves and Recording the vinyls today are better made besides putting the needle down gets the classic hiss but once the music starts it's sounds cleaner I assume because the needle tracks better.
They are still a nostalgic relic of the past are long gone. It's just that also-relic CD are less nostalgic and no one wants them. So you go digital or vinyl ... not surprising, though good to see a sustained interest in vinyl and the old ways (warms my heart as an old DJ).

A good analog (vinyl) setup beats digital sound every time. Expensive, but worth it if you have good ears. The 44.1Khz digital standard took the richness & fullness out of the CD medium. It was an industry choice made to save a few cents per disk. Foolish idea.
Went back to pencil and paper and said goodbye to digital storage. It is so much better using filing cabinets.

MColvinMcKenzie I know people will interpret this as a hipster thing, but I have a different take. Good CD players are expensive, DVD/Blueray players don't have good digital to analog converters. Refurbished record players are cheaper & sound better than the affordable CD player options.

Yeah but both of them are obsolete... Agreed they aren't 8 track tapes but your talking about the battle to not be second to last.
Takes a lot of effort to play a 45 or a 33 record on a needle than put in a CD and hit the remote. I will always love the 80s, the era I grew up in but this is ridiculous here.
Real audiophiles are snatching up 78's.
