OAKLAND, Calif. -- An Oakland hook-and-ladder fire truck crashed into a building Saturday near Lake Merritt, and it was all caught on camera.
The video shows a fire engine speed past the intersection, driving into the middle of the street -- right into the path of a ladder truck that's following close behind. That ladder truck swerves to avoid the car and straight into the storefront of a ground floor business at Grand Avenue and Perkins Street.Building Engineers, OFD Command Staff and Crews continue to work diligently to shore up the structure at 353 Grand Ave as the tow company begins initial steps to extricate the apparatus from the building. Pedestrians and vehicles should Avoid Grand Ave b/w Harrison & Staten Ave.

This article could have included some information about the driver of the Honda, are the police looking for them? Are they known? Will they be held accountable? I mean that’s part of the report of reporting isn’t it?
Here in Oakland red lights and stops are optional. Bus lane only are for cars and everything that was wheels. Emergency vehicles just ignore them they so freaking loud.
Another reason to BAN DARK SIDE tinted windows. CHP needs to enforce illegal dark side tinted windows. My daughter was killed because a driver had dark side tinted windows.

In hindsight, the fire truck driver made a bad call. If he had hit the Honda, damage would have been one used Honda and that driver would have been cited for failure to yield to emergency vehicle. I'd imagine replacing the entire storefront would cost a lot more.

It looks like the red jeep was blocking the cars view. I’m guessing they heard the siren but once the first truck passed, they thought they were all clear to make it through the intersection since it was still yellow.

Watched in slow motion this car pull out in front of a speeding hook & ladder that crashed to very narrowly avoid hitting & killing whoever was in the car. Hope they could pull the car's plate number.
