Footage of an L.A. police officer repeatedly punching a man who appears to be unarmed and surrendering in Boyle Heights draws a furious response online.

Footage of a Los Angeles police officer repeatedly punching a man during an arrest in Boyle Heights in late April has stoked outrage and prompted the launch of an internal review of the incident.

Officers were responding to a trespassing call in the 2400 block of Houston Street on April 27 and ordered a man to leave the property near the Church of God of Prophecy, according to a statement issued by the LAPD after footage of the incident began to gain traction online Monday night. In a 50-second video, two officers can be seen ordering a man to turn around near a fence outside the church. A male officer tells the suspect to “stop fighting,” and the suspect responds, “Ain’t nobody fighting.”

The officer then begins throwing overhand punches to the back of the suspect’s head while shouting profanities. At one point, the suspect attempts to take a few steps away from the officer, who follows and continues to punch the man in the head and body. A female officer stands by, occasionally reaching her hand out but otherwise not intervening.AGRO COP ASSAULTS NON VIOLENT FOO IN BOYLE HEIGHTS

Remember, it's not the beating of a helpless suspect that 'stoked outrage', it's the video! Don't blame the cops. Blame the smartphone technology that allows video recording.

And nothing will come of the “investigation” because white people don’t care when black people are abused by police. Community standards not only allow it, they encourage it.

I like how you guys reported that “the police orders the man to turn around. Then says stop fighting”. Completely omitting the fact that the man back was already turned and his hands was behind his back. Already starting the spin smh

unixdoss What the hell!!!!!!!!!!!!! Getting so sick of seeing this the police in America are an out of control DISGRACE

Both those cops need to be charged with assault. She should have called for back up or stepped in. Apparently that cop has some anger issues. He needs to be released from all duty

Let's hope the LAPD's OIA isn't as bad as the CHP's... Determining 'no crimes' if Officers deny malice!

The video.
