Stocks of major video game companies dropped sharply after Trump and other politicians linked this weekend’s mass shootings to violent video games.

to past mass shootings, asserting that the incidents were due to a “culture of violence,” created, in part, by violent video games.

The slump in video game stocks is a direct result of the comments by Trump, McCarthy and others, according to Michael Pachter, a managing director and analyst at Wedbush Securities who covers the video game industry. “Whenever a white male kills multiple people, this is what they come up with,” said McCarthy. “What are the odds of a white male in his 20s being a video gamer? 90%?”

McCarthy said the link between video games and mass shooting violence was a red herring used to divert attention from discussions on gun control regulation. “Nearly every other country has video games,” he said. “We are the only one who has these type of rampant mass shootings.”Zynga, primarily a publisher of nonviolent mobile games, also fell by 5.3% on Monday. Obviously, Trump needed something to shift responsibility. Why do video games become dangerous only after he pours out hatred? These are terrible events in themselves, and terrible for his re-election.

Could you at least add at a minimum falsely claime or with no evidence? Nah just repeat a lie... sigh. Should of just went with the legislator who thinks is because of drag queens

Yeah gang bangin comes from violent video games

It's the 'Trump turnaround' - he yells about something, stocks in the related industries take a dip, he and his cronies buy them up, they go back up again and he dumps them for a profit. He's done it consistently for his entire term of office.

well, looks like these 135 billions market value industry needs to do some 'lobbying' a`la NRA I guess. Politicians looking for replacement in income source after NRA little problems with cash flow ?

Nonsense

Honestly I followed the LATimes account because they had a sale on subscriptions. And then they push this on twitter, now? I have stopped following, won't be getting a sub.

What about linking it to realDonaldTrump and his hate speech. His rally’s that are anger and hatred. The talk about shooting people at the border. Just like with Russia, trump is practically asking them to carry that out. Hold trump accountable! GOP WhiteHouse TheJusticeDept

Rich people are fucking morons

Stop being idiots, write something worth writing. What kind of editor produces, assigns and approves this crap.

It’s about time! These violent video games have desensitized people. Parents not monitoring video games is a huge problem!

I’m buying then, all they do is print money

NRA playbook step 1 ~ blame video games. Fun Fact: video games are easily accessible in most developed countries around the world yet only the United States has horrific mass shootings. United States is the only one with easy access to guns.

Major redherring -- 'hey look over here at the video games and let's ignore the REAL CAUSES of mass shootings'

Nation Fondly Recalls When Just Regulating Video Games Seemed Like Solution To Gun ViolenceWASHINGTON—Faced with seemingly ceaseless debates over how to curb the rampant number of shootings occurring across the country, millions of Americans took a brief moment Thursday to fondly look back at a time when simply regulating video games seemed like the best solution to gun violence. “You know, there was a brief period when slapping a ‘Mature’ sticker on the cover of a violent video game was the single, clear-cut way to end all gun-related deaths in America,” said Annalise Wexler of Los Altos, CA, who went on to nostalgically reminisce about the then-widely held belief that prohibiting the sale of first-person shooter games to children without parental permission appeared to be a totally concrete and comprehensive preventative measure against mass shootings. “Forget trying to figure out how to expand access to mental health services, enforce more stringent background checks in all 50 states, or restrict the sale of military-grade assault weapons and bulk ammunition—back then we figured we could just ban death metal music and call it a day. Man, those were good times.” Many Americans also admitted to reporters that they desperately miss the bygone era when they could blame anyone but themselves for perpetuating gun violence by electing officials who refuse to pass stricter gun control laws. Fact check: Are violent video games connected to mass shootings?Facts first: While some US psych. organizations say kids shouldn't play violent video games because it may lead to aggressive behavior, there are no findings from research that demonstrate a direct connection between playing such games and mass shootings. No, it seems to be mainly teenage loners who don’t make friends easily who are full of angst. Other kids not being friendly sets them off. How many people play these games and don’t harm anyone Fortnite competition recently and no one shooting place up.. I'm curious what research HAS shown to have a direct connection to mass shootings. I'm guessing nothing. No do how there is no connection between the terrorist acts, the terrorists themselves and our President. You may gain some integrity with the public. Nobody linked Obama to any terrorist acts, so why are you and other MSM orgs blaming Trump?
