Venezuela rocked by clashes between opposition, Maduro government as U.S. backs uprising. In addition to reports of gunfire, video showed Maduro's armored vehicles rolling through the streets, in some cases trampling protesters as they attacked them

Venezuela on Tuesday was rocked by violent clashes between opposition protesters and security forces still loyal to Nicolas Maduro, the country's socialist president, in a dramatic escalation of the political crisis that has left the country teetering on the edge of violence for months.

Guaido, the president of the country's National Assembly who was sworn in as interim president in January, was joined by Lopez, a leading opposition figure who had been under house arrest, but was freed Tuesday by deserted Venezuelan military officers. Near a major military base in the capital Caracas, he announced the"final phase" of their effort to remove Maduro from power.

Guaido's representative to Washington fought back, telling reporters,"This is not a military coup. This is a constitutional process led by the Venezuelan people under the leadership of a civilian, the interim president of Venezuela Juan Guaido." The U.S."fully supports the Venezuelan people in their quest for freedom and democracy," added Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, although he stopped short of outright endorsing the actions taken Tuesday.

Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino again reiterated support for Maduro Tuesday, saying Guaido is responsible for any violence or deaths.

It’s a bit misleading to say “US backs opposition”. All the US is doing is saying good luck. Zero material support.

To all those in US Congress who back Maduro: you are deplorable; we see you. aoc

How many CIA operatives are on the ground in Venezuela this very moment ?

US Out of Venezuela! No more abuses to others sovereignty! stopMeddling

T̶a̶n̶k̶i̶e̶s̶ Truckies

The same is happening in France and all you hear are crickets from the media.

BernieSanders AOC CC me in your responses, comrades.

Waiting for the pro-Putin trolls to spaz about American 'imperialism' here. While TOTALLY ignoring the vicious, criminal -- and infinitely worse -- imperialism of the Russian and Chinese side.

Venezuela is a con. American interests want the oil, so the U.S. helps screw up elections, choke the economy, then wait for the country to implode. It isn't about socialism. This is what the US does to countries that don't want to do business our way.

TheRickWilson America take heed

TheRickWilson For those following this story, these links are useful... and a shout out for the kids at Caracas Chronicles...

The US backs the opposition. This insinuates that we're actively involved in the uprising, which is not what is happening. Venezuela deserves a better government and it doesn't have to have any thing to do with the US

With support of Madura by the Russians and from BernieSanders and the freshmen democrats. The glory of socialism at its finest.

ReaganBattalion Maduro is NOT the President, Conor Finnegan.

ReaganBattalion The US is not backing an uprising, they are backing a constitutionally recognized government.

Democrats take notice. We will NEVER be a SOCIALIST country

Rolling like just chilling and then retaliating to the attackers? The phuck were you watching?

I’m for the side that is going to to a Khadafy number on Meduro.

I'm for the side that isn't socialist/evil

I'm for the side that doesn't run over civilians.
