The encampment on the Quad of the University of Washington, known as the "Liberated Zone." UW students voted Tuesday to divest from Israel and the resolution will be presented to the Board of Regents Thursday, according to the Associated Students of the University of Washington. The encampment in the Quad at the University of Washington is expected to come down by Monday after pro-Palestinian protesters and university administrators came to an agreement on Friday.
Protest organizers also said the UW agreed to “establish a faculty committee to recommend and solicit changes to study abroad programs, that exclude participation from students from specific countries or communities, including Palestinian or other Arab students.” According to the press release from protest organizers, administrators also agreed to be transparent about the university’s “investment holdings and fund managers,” including in companies such as Boeing and major weapons manufacturers, “or companies domiciled in Israel.” The university said it “has no direct investments” in those companies.
