Brittley Barney, a 17-year-old from Roy, Utah, has found healing through writing her book "Unthinkable," which she hopes will inspire other young adults facing challenges.
Barney, who was molested at the age of five, started experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder and trauma during puberty. She sought help from therapists and found solace in writing, spending hours in her bedroom crafting her fictional tale. "Unthinkable" is set in a dystopian society where the protagonist is sent to a place called "the chamber" after contracting a generational illness. Barney says the story takes unexpected turns, much like her own life when she woke up one day to see her book cover broadcasted in Times Square, New York.
"You don't have to give up. It's really hard some days to not want to give up and stuff is really hard," Barney said, addressing the pressures faced by her peers. "No one is running the same race, so you have to run it at your own pace, and eventually, you will make it." While Barney is working on a second book and is still deciding on her future career path, she remains committed to helping others. The book is currently being edited and will be available on Amazon in the coming months.
