not go through.KUTV spoke with the Executive Director of the Utah Department of Corrections, Brian Redd, who is aware of the case that happened in Boise earlier this year. Doctors were unable to access the veins of a death row inmate in order to properly do the lethal injection.“We are moving forward as the judge authorized in the warrant with lethal injection,” Redd said.
In February the Idaho Department of Corrections did not go forward with the lethal injection of serial killer Thomas Creech. Doctors repeatedly failed to find a vein where they could establish a line to carry out the injection.He said they do have backup plans in place.Redd couldn’t give much detail, as plans are still being established. He did say that it’s common for states to learn from one another.
“We’ve had similar staff go to other states to learn from their experiences, we communicate on a regular basis.” Redd said. “There are professionals that we speak with, so we just try to learn and prepare."
