“I have full confidence in Utahns’ ability to use good judgment to make personal choices without interference from the government,” Adams said. “Doctors and patients should decide what is best for individuals, not an employer or a government agency.”

In his opening day speech, House Speaker Brad Wilson, R-Kaysville, commiserated with his colleagues over a sense of fatigue from a constant drumbeat of challenges facing the state.

“I know that’s hard to imagine, but talk to the medical professionals, and that’s what I’m hearing from the medical experts,” he said. “We’re not sitting back. We’re not doing nothing. We’re doing everything we can.”Throughout his speech, Wilson repeatedly returned to the theme of the “Utah Way” of doing things in a collaborative manner.

House speaker Brad Wilson R-Kaysville, addressing the House of Representatives as the start of the 2022 legislative session begins at the Utah Capitol in Salt Lake City on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022.Additionally, the speaker workshopped his standup act by taking good-natured shots at his colleagues. “Utah can drop gas prices if the federal government will just get out of the way,” he said. “We can and will make the move to renewables. But we can make that move without increasing gas prices and crippling our economy.”

Apparently he's had no dealings with insurance companies.

Has anyone in the legislature walked into a Walmart or Smiths in the last 2 weeks? That’s all it takes to see that people will not do the right thing and protect anyone else.

Then clearly you support the right for an abortion without government interference.

So lets talk Prop 8

JStuartAdams Yes youre right! Doctors & patients should be able to make health decisions w/o govmt interference. So put the $ where ur mouth is & get UT govmt out of our way in making reproductive choices that r best for ourselves.

Please remember this when you see a bill telling teachers that they can’t have a safe workplace or have to “show you their work.” If you’re against overreach — keep your mitts off of controlling teachers — 70% women in Utah. We have an administration for that. smallgovernment

If you're going to be present at a place of employment where your 'personal choices' affect your coworkers health, then yes your employer has a say.

What good judgement, people do not have any, reason why we are in this current state! A person does what is good for them and no one else! A big reason why we have laws and regulations.

Doctors have spoken! Listen to them! utleg

Such incredible hypocrits. These mothersf****** better vote prochoice.

Unless it’s a pregnant woman right? 🙄

Horseshit

FYI I had both shots, a booster, wore a mask, and just recovered from the latest version of Covid. It was like a bad head cold. Yes I think my vaccinations probably helped, but don't pretend they stop the spread of this one. They do not.

Jeepers. For a second there I thought you were talking about a woman’s right to consult her doctor and not her legislator and his god.

So JStuartAdams sounds like you're all in on a woman's right to abortion, eh?

Finally, Utah govt recognizes the right to smoke big blunts in hospital waiting rooms and childrens library stacks just like god and the constitution envisioned. 🙄

Let’s Google’Utah Man’ and see what comes up, just for the fun of it 🙄. The GQP is such a lousy group of hypocrites! Their desire to tell you how to dress, drink, love, reproduce, worship…is only comparable with their desire to not wear a mask.

Exactly my opinion about a woman’s sole right to make decisions about her body and health care. Leave Roe v. Wade alone and move on.

JStuartAdams we can’t even trust you to do the right thing (ie wear a mask for 5 days after leaving isolation following a positive test). And given the selfishness we’ve seen over the past 2 years, why should we have any confidence in the rest of the Utah population to do so?

RepublicansAreTraitors

But I can't buy a bottle of wine at Trader Joe's. Makes perfect sense

What about a ‘church’? And Adams called you lazy Utahans? ‘Get back to work!’ My in-laws in Utah now have Covid. I wonder if they recall my warning 2/25/2020 regarding Covid🤔

Its the old trickle down crap, the rich will hand it down to the poor.

Only if not a Woman?

Republican idiots ! Pay the bills. Don’t cut taxes! Fully fund education! Fund Utah’s health care system.

Does this apply across the board with ALL laws?

Says the man that has infected all

Lit

JStuartAdams proved yesterday that Utahns won’t use good judgement. Even if he had tested negative (which I don’t believe), he should have been masked according to the CDC guidelines he said he was following.

Said the man JStuartAdams that showed up without a mask days after having Covid. The irony. How about my good judgment to order wine thru the mail, buy a lotto ticket or legalize cannabis or have an independent commission to determine congressional maps? NM. gopTODD

Says the guy who was knowingly spreading covid all over the capitol.

That quote is very optimistic. We wouldn't need mask mandates if people followed the recommendations of experts. and aren't behind pay walls. People are choosing to look elsewhere.

Ah, yes, the test case for “good judgement”.

I have hope that people will use good judgment. But the data collected over the past two years clearly shows that most Utahns WILL NOT use good judgement unless they are compelled. This is the states own data I am referring to.

says the liar who straight up lied to everyone about testing positive and is not wearing a mask or staying at home with deadly virus that spreads like wild fire.

“I have full confidence in Utahns’ ability to use good judgment to make personal choices without interference from the government,” From the guy who ignored his positive covid tests and went unmasked to the Senate.

Stuart, you buffoon - providing the right of choice is EXACTLY for allowing Doctors and patients to decide what's best for them. What do you think the 'choice' part means?

Your doctor must have decided that a positive test result or two means you get to share it with whoever you want. How fun is that?

'Tax cuts'. Yeah the same blah blah as usual, while Utahns go without affordable homes and more covid. Utah repubs are a complete failure. Absolute total.

This includes parents' ability to use good judgement regarding their children's education.

Doctors have. That’s what the vaccine is.

Has Adams actually met any of his constituents? I mean, they elect him so good judgement isn’t their strong suit.

I think we can make personal choices of how fast we should drive or how much we can drink and drive or heck even if I should be allowed to buy wine in a grocery store.

You have no idea what’s good for Utahns

Hypocrisy at it's finest

Didn't ALL the doctors agree the best thing for ALL individuals was a mask, along with vaccinations?

It's hard not to laugh at the hypocrisy at this point.

Doctors are shouting about wearing masks at every opportunity- you are just ignoring them. JStuartAdams

Also Utah, people don't have the good judgment to be able to buy a car direct. They must need guidance from a car dealership.

Also Utah, women's body autonomy is determined by a group of men

Also Utah, adults can only purchase alcohol from state run agencies

Said the man who twice did not “use good judgement” when he ignored the mask mandate last Wednesday at the conference and likely infected many attendees and workers and then on Tuesday disregarded the cdc’s guidelines to wear a mask for 5 days after a positive test. smdh

I want to buy my favorite drink of choice from a grocery store not a liquor store. It's what's best for me as an individual.

Unless it come to a woman's reproductive right correct?

I can't buy liquor/wine in a grocery store, can't smoke in public places, can't order drinks in certain situations, can't smoke a joint anywhere/anytime, have to wear a seatbelt, have to adhere to a speed limit, can't drink and drive, DW can't make her own healthcare decisions

What about when someone tests positive for Covid but thumbs his nose at safety protocols like you are JStuartAdams. Should government intervene to save others from your carelessness and arrogance?

You POS's make decisions for all of us in this State whether we agree or not. Don't give us that BS now. The Government in Utah doest want to interfere with our individual rights.. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

So you support a woman's right to make her own healthcare decisions, right?

Except if you are female. He doesn't give females the same rights over their bodies.

Oh good. So you support a women's right to make a medical decision with her doctor without government interference. Glad we got that straight.

One of the best moves I ever made was out of Utah.

So fucking tired

Put your money where your mouth is JStuartAdams. Make this state pro-choice.

His confidence is misplaced

The 2002NWFHBOTY is positive proof many Utahns have marginal to poor judgement skills.

Oh, but you want to regulate what I can do with my own uterus? GMAFB. POWER TO THE PEOPLE. Enough is enough. Lies Hypocrites OldWhiteMen Misogyny utpol utleg VoteThemOut

So they are cool with women choose the best option for their own reproductive health now?

Wow. Never would have pegged Adams as pro-choice. How exciting!

Anyone want to test Stu’s commitment to that statement by lighting up stogies in the Senate gallery?

Sure why not, give us all tax cuts, give it all back if you want to. Who knows how long we will need services from the government in a post science world anyway.

Said a privileged white man with absolutely zero concern about what’s *actually happening

You don't allow women to determine medical procedures or treatment for themselves. Try again.

Sorta like you did Senator Adams? Assuming the reporting is correct regarding your lying about test results.

Everything about this comment is wrong utah utpol

Tax cuts when we can’t properly fund Utah schools? Great idea..

Nothing says good judgement like Utah mom's arguing against masks.

Utah Senate Pres. tests positive for COVID twice? Yikes. Either extreme Republican or goes to church on Sunday… or both.

It's pretty evident people don't do what's right....if that was the case we could have gotten rid of Covid two years ago.

“We’re not sitting back. We’re not doing nothing. We’re doing everything we can.” Everything they can to make the situation worse. Herd Immunity is not a policy, it's surrender, it's murder. The immunocompromised should not be sacrificed like some sick form of eugenics.

Who knew the GOP would turn pro choice in 2022!!!

Doctors say get vaccinated and wear a mask

Failed to remind people that he said this hours after testing positive while unmasked and in an indoor room with dozens of others for several hours.
