“This injustice is everyone’s problem. We are all responsible for affecting change and for dismantling oppressive systems.”

U.S. Soccer put out a graphic that used “One Nation. One Team.” today for its post about racism, which felt like a very different approach than the PA statement.: This is the first time I’m hearing about it. I haven’t seen it. I just feel like right now, if a brand is using this to brand itself, it sits weird with me. I don’t know if I have formulated a full thought about it, but it just doesn’t sit well. So that’s my initial reaction.

If we want to change, vote, go online and see if the policemen in your county have to wear cameras. If they don’t, find solutions to make them do that. Do they have to have dash cams? That’s how we stop the police stuff. But it starts with having a conversation. You don’t want it to be a burden on your black friends and family, but they should be the first people that you go to, because they are the ones who are experiencing it. Listen to them. See what they have to say.

What mistake we’ve been making is, just because we are in a fake bubble wherever we play or our safe world, that’s not the reality of the whole world. What’s really been hard for me going to training is just knowing that, yes, I feel so safe going to training, but the world around me is falling apart. I just feel like it’s so hard — people go to work and everything is great, but that’s not the reality of the world.

It’s going to take everyone stepping out of their safe space to realize that the world isn’t as safe. And even if it’s safe for you, it’s not safe for everybody. It really is going to take everybody. It’s really great that I’ve gotten so much support, as Lynn said, from teammates and everybody.
